75 years ago, India stepped into a new dawn. Since 1950, the per capita income (PCI) has jumped over 500 times. . According to World Bank, India is the sixth largest country in the world by gross domestic product (GDP).   However, there are so many areas in India where basic infrastructure is still lacking. Providing resources, mobilising their economy and making them self-sufficient is the best way for their continued progress. 

The month of October is about Community and Economic Development.  Let’s see how our District 3131 is “ making a difference “ through this write-up below…

Community & Economic Development (CED)

In Rotary’s monthly theme, October is month of Community & Economic Development.  Rotarians utilise  their expertise, skills , monitory and other resources  for serving  for development of economically deprived community.   For attaining this goal , in addition to their own resources & skills, they explore & mobilise funds & services from financial institutions, corporates  & Skill based training  institutes. 

Being in tune with this, District 3131 has planned wonderful module for Community & Economic Development Avenue. 

The avenue has identified 5 Focus Areas-  a) Women   b) Youth  c) Farmers  d) Transgenders  e) The Family Unit.  In accordance with these focus areas, District CED Team has designed 5 signature projects by entering into a MOU with respective operating partners. 

Singer Machines Project – Joint project with RID 3030

  • Concept – To Provide Sewing machines at 50% MRP and / set up training centers
  • Cost – Rs.6000/- per machine or Rs. 200,000/- approx. per center .
  • Club’s role – 1. Identify beneficiaries for sewing machines 2. Set up a training center

Arth Sakhi – In association with Dnyanprabodhini

  • Concept – Conduct financial management awareness sessions for women in Self Help Groups(SHG) regarding opening accounts , availing loans & benefits of Government shemes. One to one follow up by ‘Tai’ from Dnyanprabhodhini.
  • Cost – Rs. 100,000 /- to mobilise cluster of SHGs
  • Club’ role – Identify Self Help Groups

Swayamsiddha – Inter-district project replicated across Maharashtra with RID 3131 as the lead district.

  • Concept – Women Empowerment of destitute women litigating in Family Courts. Rotary Districts 3131, 3132, 3141, 3142, 3030 & 3170 are joining in collaboration with Family Courts and skilling partners- ICICI Foundation, Tata Strive, RSETI & Light House. These skilling partners offer skill courses free of cost. Bombay Hight Court has agreed to implement this project in association with Rotary across all Family Courts in Maharashtra.
  • Club’s role
    1. Volunteer to mentor the beneficiary and provide motivation and counseling.
    2. Sponsorship to host an event with Family Court.

Global Training Tracking Project (GTT)

  • Concept – Women Empowerment Project in collaboration with GTT. GTT organisation will provide advanced fashion designing training to economically deprived women and will also make available online marketplace for their products through GTT’s Corporate Partner- ‘WeChemni’. We also can track beneficiary’s progress for the entire year till she becomes financially independent
  • Cost – Rs.10,000 per beneficiary
  • Club’s Role – Sponsor beneficiary

Rotary Athelete Development Program in association with Simply Sports Foundation program.

  • Concept – It Identifies sports talent from economically deprived community to provide livelihood/ training for professional sports.
  • Cost- Nil
  • Club’s role –
    1. Identify group of children with basic sports aptitude – age group 9 to 16 years or 16 year and above.
    2. Identify sports ground
    3. Provide volunteers to execute the program.
